How It Works
- 1. Schedule free Initial Assessment
- 2. Advanced Assessment
- 3. Begin Tutoring
- 4. Progress Reports
1. Schedule free Initial Assessment
The initial assessment includes testing of phonemic awareness and phonics knowledge. This gives us a quick diagnostic of any learning gaps.
Get in touch to schedule a free 20-minute initial assessment and consultation by:
- Phone: (760) 685-0163

2. Advanced Assessment
When tutoring begins, we get to know your child and establish a rapport. We will gather information about your child’s reading and spelling skills after your child completes a series of short, informal assessments that test their:
- Alphabet knowledge
- Handwriting
- Decoding/spelling skills
- Syllabication skills
- Sentence writing skills
- Reading comprehension/fluency
We will then use this diagnostic information to develop a plan of instruction specifically for your child.
3. Begin Tutoring
Students typically come for tutoring sessions 2 times per week, for 50 minutes. During each tutoring session, we use multisensory techniques and games to teach:
- Phonemic awareness
- Phonics
- Decoding skills
- Spelling rules
- Syllabication
- Sight words
- Morphology (prefixes/suffixes)
- Reading with controlled/uncontrolled text
- Dictation of words and sentences
- Comprehension techniques
4. Progress Reports
With one-on-one (1:1) tutoring, we are able to move at your child's pace. We begin by filling in any gaps identified during your child's initial assessment. We introduce new concepts and skills when your child is ready, and incorporate spiraled review in every lesson.
You will be able to stay on top of your child's progress with weekly emails of concepts covered in sessions as well as assessments done within the progression of lessons.
